New QHY Cameras

QHY have 3 new mono cameras coming out this year :-

QHY20 Camera with KAI16050 APS 16mega pixel
QHY21 Camera with ICX674 2/3inch Sony ExviewII 3mega pixel
QHY22 Camera with ICX694 1inch Sony Exview II 6mega pixel

They are saying due for release this summer which I guess means this winter for us

No, no prices yet.

The KAI16050 sounds interesting. One shot colour with the Kodak True Sense chip. 5.5 micron pixels very similar to KAF8300 5.4 microns and
true sense chips have higher QE than regular one shot colour chips.

Agree with that there are some interesting cameras there. I'm kind of interested in the KAI-16050 camera for a Hyperstar application, although the Quantum efficiency is a bit lower than I'd like (50% peak).

The 77% Quantum efficiency for the Sony EX-View II chipped cameras is also very impressive. Its also a good sign to see Sony starting to introduce larger monochrome sensors like the 694 as well. Maybe we might see a 4/3 mono sensor from them next?

Terry,

Sony use a different QE measure to Kodak so I don't know a Sony 77% is a Kodak 77%. In fact I doubt it very much. They use some unusual term which I was unable to find a definition for. I suspect that means it gives a higher number than the regular QE numbers we normally use.

I'd go so far to say 77% QE in a Bayer Matrix sensor is next to an impossible engineering feat but would happily be proved wrong.

Greg,

I think that figure of 77% came from the Point Grey site who seemed to have tested the Quantum efficiency of a lot of different sensors. Its also for the monochrome sensor, I think the colour version has a peak of about 65% in the green channel.

http://www.ptgrey.com/support/downlo...arison_FAQ.pdf

However, I'm not sure where they got there info.

Greg, all 3 of these are mono cameras.
That True Sense matrix looks like it has a mono pixel mixed in with the rgb instead of a second green.

Thanks for that.

I think it is a new offering as I don't recall seeing this one before.

http://www.kodak.com/ek/uploadedFile...uctSummary.pdf

I see there is a mono version of the chip with 46% QE.

Not much more than the colour version with as you say clear rgb matrix.

What are the last 2 for Robin, with such low pixel counts? (Guiders?, planetary?)
