Mars from Melbourne this morning

Hi everyone,

With the extra IR sensitivity of the ASI 290mm camera, was able to capture a good image of Mars this morning.

Seeing seemed to be better for Mars as about 2:30am-3:00am then for Jove earlier.

The region is the Solis Lacus area with the Valles Marineris shown with some clouds.

Promising seeing conditions starting to happen in SE Australia for the Mars apparition, but like always anything can happen with Melbourne weather!

Clear skies.

John K.

Nice Pic.. Too bad we'll have the "boring" side of Mars for the next little while at median transit time

Really nice John. I'm waiting for Mars to rise a bit earlier to get a nice view of it

That is shows great detail John. The annoying Mars ring is present though. I think a couple of years ago I resorted to masking out that ring with any sharpened image of the planet. I really like the image scale too.

Very nice Mars, interesting fine details across the surface too, John, are they known in any way ?

Interesting detail on the polar cap John.
I've been too lazy to get up and start my Mars campaign yet.
