Atik 4000 - feedback please?

Is anyone using an Atik 4000 ccd?

If so, are you willing to provide feedback on its performance?

I have got my eye on one and wanted to get some user feedback before purchase.

Yes, I like the pixel size, the medium size format chip, the regulated two stage cooling, the ability of it to fit straight onto my 1 1/4 filter system, and the price tag!

Images I ahve seen are pretty good but any comments would be appreciated.

One thing you might want to check Paul. Filter size. Depending on the spacing between the camera and the Filterwheel, 1 1/4 " filters might be a bit small. The 4022 chip is still quite a big CCD and it wouldn't take much spacing to blow out the smaller filters.
Good luck.

Good point Doug. I will need to check that Before I committ. The marketing suggests it will work but filter wheel may push it out too far.

It did when I had an SXVR-H-16, similar or same chip, but different camera manufacturer. I used an SX CFW and 1.25" filters, and if I recall correctly, suffered a very slight amount of vignetting. They now produce 36mm ?? filters to alleviate this.
The chip is great though, I am returning to one soon all going well.

Thanks Gary! That's a shame. I'll have to try a test image somewhere.

Good luck.
Atik have a 2" filter wheel, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, and the Atik filter wheels are fairly thin, which also helps. If you couldn't get an Atik wheel, you could probably shop around for something similar.

It may well be a problem if Paul wishes to use the 1 1/4 filter system he already has and has indicated in his initial post he would hope to use.
There are plenty of 2" filter wheels out there and I have no doubt a 2 inch wheel and filters will be suitable. I have in fact got 2 X 2" filter wheels and have used them on a CCD bigger than this.

My answer was in regard to using an 1 1/4 wheel.

I have had my eye on the 4000 as well , seen some great images with it
but my concern was the cooling and most images I have seen were taken
in cold European climates. Keep us updated on how it goes on a warm nite.

Will do Mark.

I got the version that has Two stage Peltier cooling with ΔT=-40°C below ambient, with optional water assist and Full temperature regulation. So I would be surprised if it doesnt perform on hot nights.

Camera arrived! Bigger larger and heavier than the Atik 314. On the 8 inch f5 newt I get some vignetting. On the ed80 at f6 I get corner vignetting but nothing dramatic. I think in both cases flats will rectify. Cloudy weather has stopped me from taking descent image. I will post a flat soon to show how the 1 1/4 filters perform.
