Nyngan Nitescapes

We had occassion to visit the in laws in Nyngan over the Easter break which included a visit to my brother in law's 9,000 acre sheep grazing property. His property is located about 30km south of the Nyngan township so you can imagine how wonderfully dark the night skies can be there. Except of course at Easter time when it is full moon.

I took the opportunity to run off a couple of images under the full moon whilst I was there. One is of the grain silos on the property in the foreground and the other is of the shearing shed. I did some basic processing in Photoshop CS6 and enhanced the star fields courtesy of the star mask/convolution/curves processes in Pixinsight.

Links below to the images on Astrobin.

Hmmm, yes - this concept has been pondered previously. Telecoms is a bit of an issue there though. But, we can ponder

Ah Nyngan, brings back memories. I have camped several times at the campground/caravan park just over the bridge on the Bogan. It is very dark there. The Campertrailer Group used to have an annual trip out there, and i stayed there on a couple of four wheel drive trips. I pulled into the Shell station after a long haul down from Cunamulla and the guy even came out to clean the mud off my windscreen. Nice town.

Many thanks. Glad that I’ve brought back some memories.
