Hyperstar - Has It's Limits

Hi,

A beginner with imaging.

Just wanted to set my thoughts down re HS. I purchased this say 2 months ago, and the images straight off the bat, are really impressive.

I've seen people talk about HS, imaging M31 etc, but that's a very wide field object, just like a lot of neb's.

HS has it's limitations, you want those small galaxies, it won't cut it.

I see HS as a good introduction to those pretty pictures, especially with an ALT/AZ as the exposure times are much smaller. Want those nice galaxies,
then F/6.3, longer exposures, EQ, and guide. Now have my guide scope, the extensions I needed for my ASI294MC - and of course, cloud. I can't see HS giving you those shots of galaxies, at F/2

Agree ?

Cheers,
Lance

The joy of an SCT with Hyperstar is that you have an F2, f3.3, F6.3 and F10 telescopes rolled into one with the appropriate focal reducers, and to infinity and beyond with various barlows. Great images for any subject you choose.

Perfection though costs a lot more

Yes, but that's not an inherent fault of the HS but of the system's focal length. It offers absurd speed at the expense of image scale. Can't have it all.

Andromeda should fit at ~400mm F/L.

I squeezed it into a old Canon at 550mm a few years back...

The hyperstar on a C11 is the same FOV as an FSQ at prime so you'll fit M31 in the diagonal of a QHY8 for example.
