NGC2442/3 & NGC2434 by the Bunyip

Here is my latest effort (NGC 2442 / 2443 - Meathook galaxy) and NGC 2434 (Elliptical galaxy). There are also a few distant background galaxies of which a few show a reasonable amount of detail. The area is also bathed in extensive galactic cirrus which may be more readily apparent in a low res view showing the entire image.

Amazing view David!:thumbsup :

The meat hook is detailed and good colour, but the resolution your setup pulls out on the smaller background galaxies is fantastic.

Cheers,

Justin.

....sorry, sorry but the galaxy itself looks so bluudy good I just..?..had to laugh

Seriously Dave great job, looking at the background I get the impression a truer dark sky may have helped you even further?

Funny, I used to think this galaxy was quite ugly but after Paul H's nice example and now this absolute beauty...maybe I am growing to like her after all

The fast Newt wins again

Mike

Thanks Justin and Lewis; actually I should mention that I actually upsized the original image by 20% as the seeing / resolution was very good to better show off the fine detail. I've also improved the collimation lately as I found there was some tilt in the camera chip (I believe) that I have compensated for. I also sourced quality components when making the scope (eg. Mark Suchting for the main mirror) and took a zero tolerance policy for stray light which can affect contrast and hence detail in images. It all seems to be working ...

Heh, heh ... thanks Mike! Certainly darker skies would be great but there is a lot of galactic cirrus across this area which may give that impression though.

Very nice David. I am pleased to say your detail is sharper. Might have to go back and check a few subs of mine to see if I have some bad subs. Well done.

This is outstanding, mate.

Your processing is top notch -- very subtle and understated, the way it should be.

Can't stop looking.
