Just purchased an LG 70", couldn't be happier. Forget the distances from the screen the people "recommend" they said I should be 4m from the screen to enjoy it. At 2.5m it is perfect, fills your visuals just right. 3d is a joy to watch as you are not distracted by the room you are in not being in the same visual plane.
It only doesn't tick one of your boxes, in that it only has 3 HDMI.
WEBOS (yes the old Palm/HP tablet OSD) for controlling you TV is great, can download content direct with app plugins, streams DLNA direct, you can down load games.

Yes It is a nice set that "I" bought.
We have had it two weeks now and I still have not got my hands on the remote control!

I have an LG 55"-had it for 3 years now, and love it. I have it paired up with a Yamaha 3.1 soundbar with the sub built into the receiver, and the setup is just brilliant

Just purchased a Sony 40" LED LCD Bravia with a matching Sony Blu-Ray player for my parents anniversary.
Excellent TV and cheap! Good if on a medium-ish budget for a second room.

You can subscribe to Choice mag online and get access to their reviews which is handy for comparing your shortlist. A lot of TV's have crappy sound which can be an important consideration if you don't want to use external sound.

The latest 2014 model 55" LG 4K Ultra HDTV, LG 55UB850T.
http://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-55UB850T
You can find them at retailers starting around $2235.
3840 x 2160 pixels progressive = 8.3 Megapixels, 4 x the
resolution of full HD.
Now though DTV broadcasts and Blu-ray are only HD, the upscaling
engines on these sets does a fabulous job enhancing the image quality.
What is jaw-dropping is streaming 4K content from the net. Most
motion pictures are shot in 4K these days and that is what is typically
projected at the cinema. So we may look forward to consumer 4K players
in the near future.
The colours are natural and superb.
If you like looking at astro imagery they look breathtaking on these sets
using it as a monitor with the 8.3 Megapixel resolution.
Twin tuners, 4 x HDMI ports, optical audio out, 3 USB ports, Gigabit
Ethernet and in-built WiFi.

There are a couple of Sony 60" models going for under $2K at JB and Good Guys. I'm half tempted to replace my plasma with one of them just to reduce the power consumption.
I'm a bit hesitant about 4K sets. The curent version of HDMI doesn't have the bandwidth to support 4K.

Not to mention there's basically no content. Most TV is still SD, let alone HD, and HD isn't even Full HD ... it's typically 1440x1080i compressed. Even BluRay uptake is slow - DVD (which is standard definition) is still more popular.
I suggest to wait and see what kind of penetration it achieves and what content there is.

Hi Andrew,
I have one here with HDMI 2.0 that supports 4K @ 60 frames per second
with 12-bit color.
What is neat about the upscaling engine is that it doesn't just take
a HD pixel and paint it 4 times, but that it performs image enhancement
using databases of patterns. When you play a 1080p movie on it
the effect is Ultra HD-like. When I showed my niece last weekend she
described it as "more HD than HD", which sums it up.
At the end of the day it's about image quality.
The 3840 x 2160 also comes into its own when using it to show photographs.
Like all modern smart TV's, they come with DLNA and other media sharing
technologies. Re-visiting digital photographs you shot once that are
now archived on your home network somewhere, they suddenly take on a
new lease of life.

Are these screens a realistic option for use as a computer monitor for image processing?

Hi Col,
I just purchased a LG Spec Below. Picked it up for $ 1900 @ good guys great service. I copied and pasted the specs from the LG web site. But it's a awesome TV . The 200 Hz refresh rate makes watching sport fantastic. No blur at all. And the colour is very nice. I went that way as I had a LG 32 which is 5 years old and is still spot on.
Good luck with your choice.
