Does a "slate" qualify as a clay tablet?...because that's what I learnt to write on.
I do remember going in a "horse and sullky?" to Casino from my grandparents dairy farm at McKees Hill, in Casino we did the shopping and returned with a block of ice for the "ice chest" . It is so nice to be able to look from the car to see the old house when I go to town and the hills that I roamed hunting rabbits.
In my first three years of school everyone went with bare feet ... soft drink Xmas only.
I remember it all as if it were only 67 years ago.
Buying groceries was fun...I will have a pound of flour..and the storekeeper would weigh a pound of flour and put it in a brown paper bag, ...and half a pound of biscuits..weigh them and another brown paper bag...
I recall when the first self service store was to open in town, the concept was unknown, everyone was saying that it could not work as they would be robbed blind.
