Question D800 IR removal

Hi all,

Feeling a bit adventurous – is it possible to remove the IR filter on the D800, and if so, has anyone been brave enough to do it or has instructions? Cannot find anything on the net. Seems like 4 glass elements are sandwiched on the OLPF.

I’ve done this removal on my old D80 and it was fair straight forward (open body, remove glass, close body – took about 10minutes all up). I am not familiar with the body assembly/sealing and worried that this may affect sealing performance for regular use if the body is opened.

Thoughts?

I've heard of the 'sandwich' style system. I don't think there is any reliable mehod of separating them. It may be a remove and replace operation if you can get the two LP filters standalone. Don't fancy your chances on that. The alternative is a full spectrum mod, remove it all and go with a IR Cut or other filters on the nosepiece.
Mechanically I don't know how the D800 comes to bits.

Would you do a cold finger mod at the same time ?
