Hi Alan,

I live and attempt to image in Bortle 8 skies. Are you looking for evidence of LP specific to the Newcastle area or can I provide you with some from Melbourne suburbs ?

One possible way to show the impact of LP is to use Stellarium.
It can simulate the impact of LP on the number of stars you can see, and their reduced apparent brightness after LP.

Hi Alan

I live to the outer north of Melbourne and viewing/imaging out to the north is bearable (just).

Imaging I can only run subs out to about 3.0 minutes before skyglow kills it (DSLR so one shot colour). Imaging to the south is pointless due to LP.

Those I know who image using NB are relatively OK atm - but it is starting to deteriorate with the introduction of LEDs.

Introductory viewing sessions are usually OK, but LP creates a lack of contrast at times in what you are viewing, and if there particulates in the air then LP causes a serious degradation in what you are doing!

HTH (...a little)

Paul
