Bearings with shadecloth

Recently I put a new floor in my trailer with some form ply and I use a big sheet of shadecloth to dump my prunings onto as it makes it really easy to drag out of the trailer. In fact it is very slippery on the form ply and I have to be careful if I'm standing on it.

Which started me thinking..... I usually use laminex/melamine surfaces and teflon furniture glides for my azimuth bearings (dob type mounts)- these work pretty good providing I keep 'em clean and there is only a small amount of sticktion. For a little experiment, I cut some small squares of shadecloth and inserted them between the teflon glides and the laminex surface of my main azimuth bearing. Even better - almost no sticktion at all. The mount starts to move in azimuth with no jerkiness. Just the weight of the mount and scope hold the shadecloth (50mm squares) in place under the teflon glides. If I need to put a screw/washer through them at a later date to hold them in place I could, or I could cover the entire bearing surface with a sheet of shadecloth and just pull tight and staple it underneath upholstery style.

Shade cloth is cheap and very slippery - experiment some more, I will. If you've got a sticky dob type mount, cut a few small squares of shadecloth and give it a whirl.
