Well done Andy. Congrats on your 2nd one in a row.
That would have to be a candidate for the new IOTY category surely?

I know next to nothing about digitally produced images, but after well over
50 years of film astro imaging, I recognise quality when I see it, and all I can say is that David Malin must be going blind.

Raymo, thanks for the sentiment but it's all good.
I have enormous respect for Dr.Malin and I'm sure he's chosen some crackerjack images for the DMA this year (probably a good few from here on IIS) and I'm looking forward to seeing them too

Some stats about the incredible reach of APOD, so far this image has been shared 661 times globally on Facebook, with over 2,200 likes.
On Google+ it was shared over 50 times with 395+ likes.

That's a bit overwhelming for a backyard imager like me to comprehend, but it sure demonstrates that people love looking at our deep space images

I did enjoy this quote from the Asterisk forum...

"While I always admire the scientific significance of narrowband images, their aesthetic value often leaves me a lot less impressed.
But this image definitely wins me over! It has an impressionistic, vividly chromatic, hallucinatory quality, like something out of a dream.
Vincent van Gogh dreaming of his own sunflowers in space!" Ann

Nice one Ann

Wow - a second APOD in a matter of a couple of weeks. On a roll mate! Congratulations! A very cool image too with the narrow band palate you have chosen.

Cheers Troy
Since it got the Apod it's gone crazy viral on FB now.
Shared and reshared over 2000 times.
By my rough calculations thats an audience of over a million people!
Wish I had a dollar for each one... (Sigh)

Thanks Mike,
It's my first ever IIS Iotw, I'm deeply moved and honoured.
Many thanks for all you and the IIS crew have so graciously (and patiently) taught me to date.
Cheers
Andy

Thanks Steve, Richard & Steradian for your kind words.
I had a lot of fun with this one pushing the post - production to the limit.

I accept that it's probably not everyone's cuppa, but hey, the Nasa guys liked it so... there it is - cool!

Well earned too. The 'fire in the sky' processing is an impressive way to present it too.
Congratulations - Trevor
