Messy guide graph

With some passing cloud around Melbourne for a few hours I decided I’d pass up shooting Ha a few degrees from the moon to do a guide graph test until the passing clouds passed.

It looks really messy compared to what Lewis and Marc get; their near flat lines just make me drool!!!

It looks pretty darn good to me Colin, however your DEC corrections are all in one direction, which could be balance or PA not quite right.

Cheers
Bill

EDIT: Woopee I just hit a 1000 posts.

I agree it looks ok, if you consider the scale your using is exaggerating the movements displayed. Your RMS looks ok. Importantly, are your stars round.

May need to bump up the exposure time Colin, you may be chasing the seeing with only 1 second.

And next time pick a dead pixel, the guiding will work much, much better

That looks pretty good to me. You'd get round stars at 3m FL with guiding like this.

This is mostly a dig at Lewis for his hot pixel guide graphs shown in pixel scale and +-4 pixels

Stars are round Glenn, I don’t have a guide scope though so this was shot through a 675mm F/5.2 “guide scope”

It was actually 10s exposures Luka, the 1s exposures were all over the place!

That’s what I’m hoping for Marc when I get the M250 up and running

Hey you interloper - I fixed it to arc secs. You are just jealous because it is SUB 1 arc sec...

But look at the tiny FSQ-85 being driven around by a precision Japanese mount designed for 15kg IMAGING weight. It doesn't even know the FSQ is there! I don't even enable graph logs any more (in MaxIM or PHD), 'cause, ya know, I already know, and round stars speak for themself

So, get stuffed

BTW Colin, is this the DDM? I'd be a little surprised if it is.

It is the DDM60 Lewis
Under good seeing and no cloud I have managed stacked images of 1.6” FWHM at 1.16”/pixel and 300s exposures As you say, as long as the stars look good the guide graph is meaningless.

Not sure what Mike and Trish’s guide graph is like but if they can get 1 hour Ha subs with round stars at 0.65”/pixel, it doesn’t matter
