Cool Sunnies

Came across these cool sunglasses that block LED and LCD light. We might be adapting them for astro when LED street lights become the norm.

They won't be any good for what you're hoping they might be capable of doing.
They only act to polarize block backlit screens.
They don't work at all on direct LED billboards, nor do they work on OLED screens in phones, tablets, PC monitors or TVs.

Quoted from the the Kickstarter campaign page:
"IRL Glasses are in beta. This means they are compatible with most TVs (LCD/LED) and some
computers (LCD/LED). IRL glasses do not yet block smartphones or digital billboards (OLED)."

You’d have to be pretty dim about how polarised sunglasses actually work to fall for this. Those won’t do what is claimed.

Dear oh dear...

Cock your head to the side, and PRESTO! Those blocked out screens "magically" reappear.

Funny how no one in the promo video did that...

Astro application? Mate, just give me all your money, i have this new invention that eliminates ALL light pollution! Comes in strawberry flavour too. Makes you a chick magnet and you'll have a rock solid six-pack like speedhumps.

Well there must be something to these polarised lenses, as QHY has just released a new camera (QHY550) with a polarised filter installed inside it.

Who is going to be the first kid on the block to show off rainbow coloured DSO's and Galaxies, you would have to get 1st prize at the David Malin awards.
