That was never legal as far as I recall. You can rent the latest version
plus Lightroom and ongoing updates for $9.95 per month, with no
fixed rental term; good value.

Adobe released PS CS2 for free a while back.
jjjnetie posted this thread about it in 2013:
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...free+photoshop

The download was available here:
https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitl...=cs2_downloads

BTW it's not available anymore.

Alternatives to Photoshop

GIMP - is a free open source image processor software. It's interface is very "photoshop-like."

Affinity Photo is a relatively new image processing suite that reviewers are rating highly. Purchase cost is about $65.

https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/

I have tried GIMP, haven't tried Affinity. GIMP works OK, couldn't rate it better than Photoshop.

Because I have always had Photoshop, I'm sure there is bias i any comparison I make. I only briefly trialed GIMP to be able to tell my students about its performance. I have been using Photoshop since 1992 and taught Photoshop workshops since 2002 so it's hard for me to rate a new product that I am unfamiliar with as better than something I've been using for 23 years. I am sure that once you get used to these products, they will work very well.

Must mention that Adobe changed it's policy soon after and now there's limitations on it's use:

*From Adobe: The serial number below should only be used by customers who legitimately purchased CS2 and need to maintain their current use of these products."

Affinity Photo seems to be for Mac only.

Another Win alternative, PixBuilder Studio (free).
I think Serif do a lot of their earlier versions of Windows compatible photo editting software free. Get you hooked and then try to upgrade you. Tried it a few years back and they are still pestering me.

Check out the recent versions of PaintShopPro - they've come a long way and now can do 99% of what $$$$$PS does. PSP also plays well with the PS astronomy add-ons/ plug ins.
Well worth checking out.

I agree with Ken on PSP. It's quite a sophisticated program now, and relatively inexpensive.
