Solar Eclipse Setup

Hi all,

Not quite sure if this is the right section, move if needed.

Just want to run my shopping list by the gurus before I make the order . I've been in contact with a few fellow astronomers/eclipse chasers and have come up with the following list of gear for the upcoming total solar later in the year.

- William Optics Megrez M72
- William Optics 0.8x flattener
- Skywatcher EQ2 mount, tripod and RA motor drive

I've got a 40d that will be placed at the back of this. I'm going to be shooting corona (i.e. nothing close up)

Any reasons why I should not proceed? Speak now or forever hold your peace... Any critical piece I'm missing?

Cheers

It sounds reasonable. I would look through one and make sure the field of view is about right. It most likely is.

Of course you will need a solar filter for the scope.

Last Venus Tranist I made a solar filter out of Baader solar film.

Naturally it all has to be very well made as we are talking about potential blindness and wrecking of a camera if it comes off whilst in use.

Greg,
