Hi,

I've always liked reading Sobel since 'Longitude' which I think is fantastic.

Now with an unerring instinct for relevance it seems to me, she writes about women in astronomy and cosmology. Looking forward to this one -

I like Dava Sobel's books too and btw the former manager of Sydney Observatory, Dr Toner Stevenson (just graduated last week) did her thesis on the Astrographic Catalogue and spend a lot of time talking about the many talented women in astronomy that were often ignored. Haven't read 'Longitude' but 'Galileo's Daughter' was a good read by Dava Sobel.
I've always enjoyed reading about Henrietta Swan Leavitt and Annie Jump Cannon and will be getting this new book for sure.

Accolades to Dava Sobel for her books. Longitude, Galilelo's Daughter, and To Father are on my bookshelf.

I only recently found A 27May 2012 Thread by gary which mentioned Ruby Payne-Scott, Australia's pioneering radio astronomer / physicist. Gads, how could I forget Beatrice Tinsley?
I had not heard of her until I was given the book 'Bright Star: Beatrice Hill Tinsley'. She is a Kiwi astronomer and cosmologist. I think a doco has been made about her but I haven't see that.
