Another Trifid

I haven't been imaging for quite a while so thought I'd pick a soft target to get back into it.

Took me a while to set up for imaging as I'd forgotten quite a few things and I'd forgotten a lot about processing as well.

This is 173 x 45sec subs, with darks.

GSO 250 F4, Canon 1000D, Baader MPCC3, Backyard EOS, DSS, StarTools, Gimp.

Thanks Max

I'm using a SkyWatcher AZ EQ6 GT with an Orion 50mm mini guide scope with PHD2.

I think you are being too hard on yourself, it's a great image!

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Cheers

Chris, I'm still fudging my way around StarTools myself.

I've watched some tutorials and have visited the StarTools forum but it's still not easy to get my head around it.

Basically I just go with the default settings with most of the modules. I was starting to learn what the parameters were about but then had a break from imaging and misplaced my notes.

The colour module I find is confusing. From what I've read some other processing software will inaccurately alter the colour when stretching an image, ie the colour in the image is stretched along with the luminence.

StarTools keeps the original colours when stretching. An example I saw was M42. Very few images you see will show green around the centre of the nebula. According to the author of StarTools the centre should have a green tinge to it.

So do we buck the trend and show our images with 'unusual' colours or go with what is generally considered the 'normal' colours?

Anyway, in short I can't really give you any tips as I'm still very much a learner. I'm always open to advice if you have any for me

Regards

I don't know about "normal", but I have always been able to see a green
tint in the area around the trapezium with a moderate aperture scope.
