Grabbed this early morning shot of the Seven Sisters in subzero temperatures. Polar alignment was out a fraction, hence the eggy stars. I think I may have accidently knocked one of the tripod legs in the dark going to and from the car to keep warm. My earlier shots of Andromeda had nice round stars, oh well these things happen.

Not quite sure why the brighter stars have large halos around them because it seemed quite clear above the lower lying mist. I was checking my scope for dew forming but all was clear. Maybe there was some thin high cloud not noticeable with my aging eyes!

18 x 1 min unguided subs 1600iso. Canon modded 550d on an Esprit 100, processed in DSS and Photoshop.

the halos look odd to me - with the stars not being centered in them. Lovely shot though.
