Another Helix

Taken over 3 nights on 8" F5 Newt with ASI071.
I first processed with DSS then Startools but wasn't very happy with. So I've got a Pixinsight trial.

This was a major learning curve (I mean still is ...). But I really like it. I've followed the workflow on

Is this a reasonable place to start?

Did the sub selection, registration and stacking with PI. I really like this - it showed me that only the first night had good SNR. So out of 8.5 hours I've only used 4 hours for this. Here is the first go at processing in PI. I've still got to work on the background more (and the Helix for that matter).

Nice Chris, you have managed to pick up the faint shock wave on the lower left.

Looks good to me. Well done.

Re PI: I have just subscribed to this set of tutorials.
First 5 are free.

Well worth the $40 for one year.

Take heaps of notes and write out a workflow.

That's a good result, Chris.

Warren Keller, who does the IP4AP tutorials also has a PixInsight book. There's also a guy, Jim Morse, who has collected a heap of useful info from the PI Forum and elsewhere into a "crib sheet." PM me if you want a copy or details of how to sign up for future versions.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks all. And thanks for the links to PI resources.
Its amazing how much stuff there is in PI. One of the nice things I found was projects - where those with poor memory recall like me can easily reproduce a workflow.

F5 rules in Sydney Alex!
