horse attempt with 80 mm

One hour and ten thru 80 mm at 1600 iso nikon cropped fity percent and marginal processing.
Still trying to sort so many things out.
I call this an artistic approach as a general excuse for poor processing skills.

I think next is to use flats and to get a decent processing program.

Just came back from Andrews with the heq5 which is still in the car and of course the clouds roll in...still another step forward.

Also picked up another t ring given the t ring for the 80 mm is now somewhat dedicated to the 80mm due to the unsatisfactory way I have had to set things up.

so the eight inch has a t ring set up with coma thing in place.

Both t rings are less than satisfactory as there is play that should not be present..another thing to fix.

Anyways I am happy simply because I am getting some results in the city and clearly there is hope as the problems lie with me as oppossed to a poor sky. So I go from "whats the point" to "I can get something" which is great as it makes having to be in the city a little more acceptable.

Missed your calling Alex...
You should have been an artist!

It's all there, the horse, the flame, Alnitak.

Most punters would look at that and say 'WOW'.

Of course, not knowing that Alnitak is actually blue :-)

Thanks.
I was an artist I made cash as a kid from prize money and selling stuff.
I will get to colour later my goal at the moment is no more than capture and get some detail and the colour suffers.
Just assembled the new mount and I think its weight will be welcome.
The cover plate over the gears does not sit well but otherwise so far looks great.

How many frames did you stack ?
It is a sharp image, but somewhat discolored, as there is too much yellow in it. But my first astrophotos looked worse. So you are on a good way....

Do you have Photoshop ? If yes, you can stack images with photoshop. I've done this with success, the latest a few days ago.

Hi Skysurfer.
There were 137 frames of 30 seconds each. 10 dark frames and I think about 15 bias but no flats...stacked in Deep Sky Stacker.
As to softeware I have gimp and light room but really have no idea what I am doing.
A little in levels, curves, colour balance and brightness and contrast. .very ordinary.
The colour gets determined by what adjustment seems to bring out detail.
I am going 30 seconds mainly because polar could be better...I have no view of CSP so my method of photographing the pole etc does not apply when I am in the city.
Also using 30 seconds at 1600 iso manages sky glow and also the camera will do 30 seconds so at the moment I am seeing what I can do with this approach.I dont have to involve the lap top at this point...when polar gets better I will auto guide and try longer exposures and lower Iso.

The mount runs unguided ok when at 30 seconds.
Thanks for the link and I hope those clouds go away both for you and me.

Er not making excuses but the photo I posted was not the one I intended.
If I can I will post the good one if I can find it.
I made the mistake of not putting in a system to manage photos now there are so many ...
A basic thing and I need to address.

So I have a travelling set up now, solar panel, battery, charger and small genny if needed, inverter, mount scope, dslr, camera guider plus scope, lap top a couple of cases with stuff...well everything I think...but I need a chair. The wheel chair would be perfect but with all the gear it wont fit.

And a van just did not have time to buy one this week.

Leon I feel so guilty buying all this stuff but I am going crazy in Sydney looking after my Dad.
I love him but in truth I hate being here...you would remember the days I was in the bush and happy as...but what can you do..he needs me and although you should accept that and be happy to help I just hate the city...but on the positive I dont get upset with folk and have not hurt anyone and have not even come close so thats good.
Are you doing any photos or has the good life got to you and it is now all too much?
I tell you with my legs man it is so tuff and my mind is not as good as it once was...so it is now such a challenge.
Do you know I have to get a man in to change a tap washer...
And this new lap top is such an annoyance. ..bring back the floppy disks I say..

I understand what you are saying Alex, but like you say what are you to do.
I too hate the city, and that fast pace, any place with a traffic light is to big for me now.
Alex, we move on with our travels on Tuesday coming and will be in Queensland again until December.
Sorry to hear that you are struggling to do what we, well most of us do with out thinking.
I actually think of you often, especially when i nearly step on an ant or see a small creature, it puts a smile on my face and you come to mind.
Take care my friend and keep posting, i read all your stuff.

Leon

Sorry to complain Leon.
I am so happy to hear you think more about lives that seem insignificant to others.
Life is wonderful.

Low, you say, but significantly higher than where I am.

I like your work.

On your T-Rings, is it worth taking your rig in to Andrews and get them to recommend anything that may help settle it?
