QHY8 and IR filter assistance please

Hi all. Just have a question I need some help with. I have purchased a QHY8 from a fellow IIS'er and noticed it came only with an IR glass cover. I am also aware that they came with a clear glass cover also, however I don't have that. I have used IR filters with a webcam to get good colour when doing planetary shots, but not sure when to use it with the QHY8

I do not plan using the QHY for planet shots only deep space. Do I then assume I would be better getting a clear Glass filter to protect the CCD and not use the IR filter? Or is it still some use for some or all deep space objects.

Regards
Mardy

You leave the ir filter in place as you will get bloated stars without it as well it forms a moisture barrier when you dry out the camera so that moist air does not penetrate the cameras innards and condense on the cooled chip.

Thanks Alan for your help. I will not try to get a clear Glass cover if it is not required. I was just worried that the IR filter would cut out colour in the Nebs.

Martin
The IR filter in place is the norm. The glass filter is the exception.
It's a great camera and I hope you enjoy using it as I have one and find it a delight.
