Not sure of advantages of one over the other, to my mind its a matter of preferance.
All mine are hard, I dont think you can get soft Pentax originals.

My favourite 135/2.5 has an integrated pull out metal hood - love it.

I was scouring ebay a while back to get a replacement for my 50/1.7 lens hood (lost it one night) most that came up were soft ones or generic plastic.
That reminds me havent looked for a couple of months.

We only use soft ones and they are great, you can fold them back ect. - cheaper too - also have one or two old lenses with the slideout intergrated type and they are great too - some camera shops i visited had like big bins of dozens of old soft lens hoods - and you just fished thru and found ones that fitted the filter thread - some have universal threads. How they apply to the modern camera lense i have yet to find out
