Jewel Box

Here is one I took as a 3am late night filler--too late to start anything needing a long exposure.

Acquisition details here https://www.astrobin.com/hr7kdc/0/?nc=user

Bigger version here https://www.astrobin.com/full/hr7kdc/0/

Taken with a 12" Plane Wave on an AP900 mount with an FLI 16803 Proline. Total exposure was 1 hour through R, G and B. Processed in PixInsight. Cropped.

Another one we completely missed.

The thing that is really special is the contrast between the mostly blue cluster members and the beautifully presented warm sand of the background stars.

That's a great Jewel Box. Its a bit of a hard one to image and it never seems to match the visual look but yours is one of the nicest I have seen.

Thanks all. As Greg says, this is harder to image than one would expect. I have tried several times over the years and this is the first one that I am happy with.

Nice one Geoff! I've never done any kind of visual astronomy, but photos like this make me want to do it...... if only I had another scope!
