THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

FREE PUBLIC ASTRONOMY EVENTS AT MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY!

Come along and get up close and personal with the nation’s leading astronomers.
Macquarie University is hosting a major Astronomy conference from July 20th to 25th. 2014. There are a number of free exciting events on offer that the public are welcome to attend.
PLEASE NOTE: these events do not require pre-registration, you are welcome to turn up and enjoy.

Ask a Astronomer

Free public panel discussion.
Everything you wanted to know about “Life, the Universe and Everything” but may have been previously too afraid to ask! This pubic discussion event gives you the chance to pose questions in a panel format to some of the sharpest and well known minds in Australian astronomy. There is no astronomical subject off limits and no question that cannot be asked in the field of astronomy: e.g. cosmology, extra-solar planets, space travel, the possibility of life on other worlds, black-holes to name but a few. The sky really is the limit!

Australia’s voice of astronomy Professor Fred Watson looks at Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity and its relevance and meaning today – nearly 100 years after it was first postulated. Is it still the foundation on which we base our understanding of the universe?

Fields of Vision: Art and Astronomy

Free public art exhibition.
This exciting exhibition is a collaborative exhibition with Macquarie University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy to coincide with the 2014 Astronomical Society of Australia Annual scientific meeting hosted at Macquarie. All are invited to come along and see the selected works.

Open: Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm (plus on selected Saturdays by appointment)
