NGC5139 mega Centauri

Omega Centauri (ω Cen or NGC 5139) is a globular cluster in the constellation of Centaurus that was first identified as a non-stellar object by Edmond Halley in 1677. Located at a distance of 15,800 light-years. It is the largest globular cluster in the Milky Way at a diameter of roughly 150 light-years. It's estimated to contain approximately 10 million stars.

Deforked Meade LX90 ACF 8" F10 SCT on a HEQ5 Pro, full spectrum Canon 1100D, Baader UV/IR cut filter, 185 x 30 seconds guided with PHD2.

Still mucking about with the 8" SCT shooting the brightest objects. Lost of a lot of vibrance in the jpeg conversion. Even the Astrobin one looks flat. But what can one do...

Thanks H. Having fun with this scope. I don't think I'll be going deep with it, but good for bright objects.

Thanks Colin. It's a good focal length for it.

Thanks M&T. I had trouble with the colour on the jpeg version. The TIFF seems fine but the jpeg looks a bit flat. I guess there's 60MB file size difference for a reason.

I think the typo (deliberate?) in the title is perfect - MEGA Centauri.

Nice indeed.
