13/8/19 Moon Jupiter and Saturn Celestron C6 on EVO with ASI 1224mc camera and 1.5x barlow
13 August had decent conditions in Canberra as Sydney also appears to have enjoyed. Good conditiions have been a bit rare here in August.
Of course a nearly full moon does not prevent decent solar system imaging, it just provides an extra target. The moon is a target I need a fair bit more practice on and the area around Schiller crater is an attractive site on a near full moon. Jupiter is receding but you can still make out some nice detail with small scopes. Conditions may have been fading a bit by the time I got to Saturn but it is still a stirring sight.
Very good results with a 6 inch scope Ross. Cloudynights planetary imaging forum have a "Small Bore Challenge" section that features 6 inch scopes or less. You'd wow them with your efforts in this category. Great detail and contrast in your processing, the 1224 OSC is a neat little planetary camera for your scope and Barlow setup. Nice work, the seeing must also have been pretty good for you that night.
Yes it was a good night for imaging and I do post similar images on the Small bore site in CN as our temporary advantage in the altitude of Jupiter and Saturn makes my images quite competitive with those of many Northern hemisphere imagers with medium or even larger scopes. Quite a few Aussies post on that forum as the solar system imaging forum there is quite lively while in comparison DSO contributions from long exposure imaging have a much stronger presence here than there.
Ross, you got the trifecta! These look even better than the last set you posted. I'd like to have another crack at the gas giants before the season's over but weather, availability and lack of equipment at the moment prevent me from doing so. All I can do is watch (not in a creepy way) so keep them coming.
Really I just post a few images here on occasions to show those that have not done any telescope imaging that with basic gear like my ETX 105 or my C6 both on ALT-AZ mounts it is feasible to obtain some pleasant and interesting images of solar system objects while applying much less skill or effort than is put into all the great DSO images posted here.
Attached is Jupiter with a GRS transit taken on 17 August using the Celestron C6 on its EVO mount under pretty unsteady atmospheric conditions but still looking decent
