Canon cameras

I have been taking an interest in canon for obvious reasons.

Ok, Canon 350Da then comes the Canon 20da (excellent review in AS&T).

So where does the Canon EOS 5D fit in the picture? 12.8 mega pixel?

I think the 5D is a more professional camera, at 12.8 mp it'll obviously let you blow up a bigger picture for printing.

It wouldn't be cheap though, if you're on a budget, the 300 or 350D is the best choice. But even then you're looking at > $1000-$1500.

And; with a 12.8mp you should be able to get images near 2m x 1.2. Very large blow ups.

It is full frame also, meaning big dollars Just the Body is 5k Au. Has capacity of 30fps, larger lcd at 2.5", next step in light weight camera gear.

Check out Hutech's site
http://www.sciencecenter.net/hutech/newprod.htm
And prices
http://www.sciencecenter.net/hutech/canon.htm
My best guess is the modified 5D will be about AUS. $6K.
Bang for buck the modified 350D is best.(Cventer)
The modified 20D is better than the modified 350D with higher ISO and lower noise.
The modified 5D would be better still, if price was no impediment. It would have a bigger field being full frame.

Canon 5D is the holy grail almost. The most important attribute the 5D has is a full size sensor as opposed to the 2/3 size of the others (350D, 20D etc). That means standard 35mm focal lengths give the fov's we have come to expect from 35mm film cameras. I have a 20D but will be upgrading to a 5D or equivalent when the price reaches a reasonable level. I'm not sure that the 5D modified would be better as the larger frame may cause problems with vignetting.

Plus Davo, for the cost of a 5D you could buy a flashy SCT or Shmidt/Newt with GoTo/Tracking/Buzz/Click computerised everything for pics of DSO's using the 'Mod' switch on the TouCam.

'Dob with Fantastic camera' - v's - 'DSO Astrophography scope with Modded TouCam'

I know which one I would choose!

Yes you are correct. The 5D would br great. There would definitely be vignetting unless you invest in a 2" adapter. Here is a comparison.Hutech have a very nice system and the prices are quite reasonable.

i read that review of the 20da in AS&T and thought how good it looked. The 350da is fantastic as well.

I have been reading cloudy nights re a great planetary and great wide view eyepiece.

add a parracor, 2.5x televue, 5x televue and wow it stacks up.

It is a lot of fun budgetting though! or should that be spelt dreaming

I just love my 1Ds except of course, the guy with a 1Ds MKII...!. Anyway, I hear from very good sources in Japan, Canon will have a 20MP Prosumer DSLR within a year or half. BTW, the 20Da is only the tip of the iceburg. So enjoy your new toys my friends, Canon loves their loyal customers.. In the words of ABBA...Money.. Money.. Money....
