I appreciated all the kind comments on the initial post of NGC 1365 but wasn’t really happy as I didn’t spend much time on processing it
Decided to spend more time and reprocess in Startools V1.6 OSC linear data set
The main workflow changes were -
A bigger crop which reduced the amount of gradient Startools had to deal with , which I turn reduced the effect of vignetting
A slightly bigger stretch in Develop rather the Autodev
Increased Deconvolution
Increased Wavelet Sharpening
Used a different HDR algorithm
Used Life module to reduce noise grain
Tweaked colour a bit
Reduced the final noise reduction a bit
Anyway here’s the re process which took nearly 2 hours
I think it turned out much better with more detail in the core and spiral arms
Martin I would like one of the first copies of your book on astrophotography when you publish it....autographed of course... in my humble opinion that is a very good image and I can only wish that one day soon I can achieve something similar.
I expect this was thru the eight inch in your Southern observatory.
Any chance of a crop showing only the galaxy ..reason is it will not suffer as much from down size and I would love to see detail less downsized.
It looks like being clear here so I can only hope..I am after M74 ....and I must admit that my "old" star map method left me not finding it, unusual but fact, but with my new fancy goto in play there it was center stage and I did not have to move it for better framing...plus it was still there after I left the area to find a nice bright star to adjust focus...anyways the project is not going well and I sortta lost some steam ...poor stars shapes scattered thru my session I think due to cables..maybe moths landing on one side or the other..only in RA ...but seeing your wonderful image just now has remotivated me ...seriously...thank you...I threw out maybe 100 subs or more (maybe 400 including other projects) so I just have to get those back plus another 500 or so before I can tell if M74 has worked for me. But that on top of the heat (100 in the van but only 95 with the air con) and not walking well etc etc left me ticked off somehow...
Alex
Your comments are very humbling
Maybe one day I might write a book but too busy imaging the universe for the next 10 years or so
Sorry to disappoint but my image of NGC 1365 was captured in Bortle 8 Sydney with my old 6” f6 Bintel GSO newt !!
