Arkaroola Skies

G'day

I captured this image a few weeks ago while staying a couple nights a Arkaroola down in South Australia, love to hear your thoughts on it!

I am quite impressed with how it came out considering it was only captured with the little Fuji X100

It is a 26 image panorama of 30 second exposures at ISO 4000

Full size Here.

Cheers and thanks for looking!

Jo

That's a fantastic pano Jo. Especially considering the little camera you used to capture it, nicely done.

That's an excellent panorama Jo...you have balanced the foreground and sky very well and the foreground doesn't look over stretched or worked, still looks like natural nighttime (could darken the foreground just a tad perhaps..? but just a thought) - very well done.

Awesome work Jo. One of the best I have seen on here. My only critique if I may is that the blending of the foreground and the sky could have a smoother transition. The mask is clearly evident in parts. But I'm nitpicking- great job!

Thanks Jason, the X100 is quite a surprising camera! I wonder if the manufacturers ever thought it would be used for these kind of images.

Thanks Mike, really glad you like the foreground/sky balance, I spent a bit of time trying to get that right. I'm not sure if it's any good composition wise though, I was just walking along the road and plonked the camera down and started shooting

Yeah, the Flinders Ranges are amazing! It was well worth the trip for us.

Thank you very much Greg. Am really glad you like it.
I used a brush to add contrast to the sky to darken it and I did a pretty sloppy job on keeping it off the ground. I'll do it again and try and make it cleaner.

Cheers

Looks great Jo. The Magellanics and Milky Way came out beautifully.

Have you sent a link to Doug Sprigg at Arkaroola? It would look great in their dining room or the conference centre. Maybe you could do a deal for some accommodation and/or free observatory/star chair time for your next trip?

Keep up the good work!

- Dean

Thanks a lot Dean. Yeah I think my Dad sent the pic to Doug, haven't heard what he thought about it.

During my visit Doug very generously gave me free use of one of the C14's in the dome and a 12" dob along with the star chairs! I had a ball
Very thankful.

Cheers
Jo
