NGC3572 - The Wishing Well Again

Assuming you all know your Enid Blyton, that is.

I love a good open cluster and I was please with the amount of Ha the D60a pulled out from the Carina region given these were just 3 minute subs.
Tried out a new Baader Vario finder which was rock solid.

NGC3532 - The Wishing Well agan
Cores blew out faster than expected so used convolution in PI to pull them down a bit

FSQ106n
D60a
APMach1
Processed in PI

20 * 180sec.

Thanks for looking and if you have hints on how to make this pop, feel free to comment!

That's a really nice field David. I feel the stars are a little muted for my taste but the colors are spot on.

Very nice David, Star background is rich.

I tried this one quite a while back, with a similar (albeit flipped) framing and an emphasis on the Ha nebulosity: https://www.astrobin.com/170102/

Nice work, David!

The image doesn't appear to have an embedded ICC colour profile, so it's difficult to tell exactly what it should look like. You might want to check your colour management settings.

Assuming it should be sRGB, I think you can make some small improvements pretty easily. I'd clip the blue and the green a little to warm it up (looks like you have a slight blue/green colour cast). Another thing to try is to use the ColorMask script to make a red mask, blur it with a little Convolution, apply the mask to the image and lift the red a bit with CurvesTransformation. That will make the red Ha areas pop a little more.

I did give this a go so if you're interested I can post a small before/after shot...

Cheers,
Rick.

Risk/Louie and Marc

Gents, timing is awesome. When Louie posted his comments, I dived into his site as he has some really good Photoshop tutorials on this sort of image which I had forgotten about. The concepts are the same as in PI so I have an updated version below in which I also used Ricks colour mask to lift the Red (Thanks Rick..so many things learnt and so many tricks forgotten).

Thank for asking Rick, would be good to see where you landed and yes, SRGB.

Not sure whats happening with the colour profile though so I have added a screen shot showing the settings used when saving to Jpeg.

Thanks for the great feedback.

Barry, liked your image, as you say, same FOV!

Colour Management settings. Do these look reasonable?

I suspect because I use Adobe to save for web (legacy ideas..) by default you have to select to embed the profile so if you were looking at the small version this may be where the problem arose.

cheers

Hi David,

Colour management settings look OK. Would be worth profiling your monitor if you get a chance - it probably doesn't have the same gamut as sRGB. As you said, it looks like the ICC profile was removed after working on the image in PI.

Attached images are 1) original, 2) HT tweak/red mask, 3) additional contrast curve.

Cheers,
Rick.

I have no idea why the images are all slightly different sizes. They were exactly the same before I uploaded them. That makes them a bit more difficult to compare...

Hi Ricks
Thanks for posting. Colours and contrast are certainly more punchy.
Will have a tweak later on.

Will Spend a bit of time looking at using Pi to resize to minuscule size

Cheers
