.net V3.5 Unable to download

Problems with laptop.
Trying to set up a DELL Inspiron 17R, win10 64
I can't run ASCOM etc as I can't get .net V3.5 to download.
Keep getting error message 0x80070002
Tried all the Dr Google suggested fixes - none have worked!
Has anyone experienced this issue and found a working solution???????

I am using .net v4.8 with Win 7, you should be able to download that, I would imagine its backward compatible.

Yeah, I initially thought the same, but ASCOM (and probably others) definitely looks for V3.5....
Need to find a way around it or the laptop is NBG!!

It is now a Windows feature found in control panel. It may be turned off. Turn on and reboot and you will have .NET 3.5.

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dot...-35-windows-10

(Scroll down a bit).

Good try but....
When installing the ASCOM V6.5rc2, it still looks for .NET V3.5!!!!!
Back to square one (at the moment)

Hi Ken,

I've got .NET 3.5 I downloaded years ago 2012. It's 237 Mb. Happy to put in on a disk and send it to you. Not sure if it will solve the issue but the fact it's an older version may mean that Microscoff hadn't "modified" it.

Are you only having issues downloading the file or is the issue relating to installation?

Cheers,
Damien.

That's a shame, did you download the removeASCOM.zip file, it should clear out the registry of any ASCOM v6.4 references.

You could try REGEDIT and see if there are any references to the older ASCOM platform and delete them.

Or take a sledgehammer approach and reformat C drive and do a fresh install of everything.

Otherwise you may have to shoot off an email to the ASCOM programmers.

Damien,
Thanks for the thought....
I'd already tried copying the .NET V3.5 folder (from another PC) and placing it in the local .NET folder....no success - not recognized.

Bill,
There are no ASCOM files on the DELL, it's never been commandeered to do astronomy "work" before.....
(If the ol' ACER would just behave itself I wouldn't be doing this!)

Hi Ken,

Copying the .NET files from one computer to another as is, will not work in this case.

I have the installation file that installs .NET 3.5 onto the computer. When it installs, it copies files all over windows in their correct places and also registers some of them in the depths of Windows somewhere.

Offer still open, happy to send for free.

Cheers,
Damien.
