You're doing well Martin. Interesting how we seem to focus on certain types of objects for a while - I haven't done glob's or galaxies for ages (smc excepted).
Thanks Tony appreciate it
When the moons +60% I only image clusters in Bortle 8 Sydney skies
I don’t use filters so Nebulas and galaxies have to wait for the dark
Down at my dark site ( Bortle 3/4 ) I image everything with my 8” newt , moon or no moon
Going down in a weeks time ( hopefully)
Great image of this cluster. Love the star colours. The 6 inch is such a good all-rounder. You should get some good images next week up at your dark site away from the Sydney glow.
Cheers
Andy
Thanks Lost in Space
I think doing all the little things right eventually shows up in your images
I’m pretty anal with clean mirrors, collimation, DSLR placement in focuser ( I use some Teflon tape to reduce the slop before tightening up the thumb screws), levelling Mount , mount balancing , framing and focus ( I don’t just rely on FWHM , I take multiple 30 second test exposures zoomed on a small star in the target field and get the tightest visual focus I can before imaging )
My processing software Startools does a great job, I’ve been using it for 18 months and still learning. It may not be that popular but I enjoy the results and it’s particularly good at reducing or eliminating gradients and noise etc
