Gum 85 in Ha

Hi all,

This was a nice personal discovery - I was not aware of this object until only two months ago, when I was searching for an interesting candidate for a new image.

Integration is just over 40 hours of 3nm Ha with my trusty guidescope. Also have about 3hrs per channel of RGB data, so HaRGB should soon materialise.

Hi res: https://cdn.astrobin.com/thumbs/DbSI...6_wmhqkGbg.jpg

Thank you for looking

EDIT: Speaking of diminishing returns - here are crudely processed 23 hours worth of data for the same object from a few weeks ago: https://www.astrobin.com/full/421289/0/

40 hrs... we've had 40hrs of clear nights for the past 3 months down here in Raccoon City.

Not bad for a guidescope

A lovely rendition Suavi - Gum 85 is one of my favourite nebulae - courtesy of Melbourne's weather (plus other commitments) it eluded me wrt imaging it this year.

If you follow the link: https://www.aao.gov.au/itso/outreach/GeminiContest

This is what it looks like with just under an hours imaging time on the Gemini Telescope in Chile using IR and visible light filters.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your finished image of it.

Definitely a good find and nicely presented Suavi. Wonderful detail which draws the imagination along many paths.

Like the criss crossing striations on this one Slaw, reminds me off sharp images of the North American/Pelican nebulae and Swan nebula

Nice one, Suavi, but it's a pretty meagre integration with only 40hrs of data... I expect more after your effort on the Helix

All jokes aside, very well done, lots of great detail... not sure if I've seen this one before

Thank you all for such kind comments, even Lewis was nice

I think 40 hours will have to do for now (plus I have about 10 hours RGB, hopefully soon to be recovered from the hard drive), as it is getting late this season to get any more data of this not that popular target. I will try to improve next time
