Avast virus protection

Hi guys, can anyone shine some light on why Avast Virus protection is giving me so much grief.

It keeps on popping up crap that i am a so much risk the hackers will come in a destroy my computer and take mall my data, you must download this and that.

It is just bloody annoying all the time, I never answer this crap but it is such a nuisance.

So I decide to fix it myself it took some time, i wiped the stupid program and did a full three hour repair and fix scan on my C drive and the machine is running at a hundred miles an hour, the way it always has.

I am no Computer expert, far from it, but i enjoy talking to you guys and that is the only social media sites i visit.

One would have to wonder why this happens.I just gives me the xxxx

Avast is unlike some free antivirus programs, which scan, detect, block, quarantine and/or delete the malicious software.

Avast free version only scans, detects and warns of an issue. Removal of malicious software is manual, initiated by the computer user, which can cause some security issues

So the constant reports can be annoying

AVG FREE is one of the best, and does not keep sending messages

I have been into IT for 40 years any I use it all the time

Also Avast, Bit Defender, and many now come with "gaming mode" turned on that can slow a PC a lot and needs to be turned off for non gamers

Thank you Jeremy, I did however pay for Advast but it is so intrusive i hate it, so it was better to just wear the cost and get rid of it.
So you reckon AVG Free is the way to go.

Many thanks for that useful info, I will look into that.

I used to work as a volunteer software tester for and Av company many years ago as a tester checking for compatibility issues, I also started and ran for 10 years a registered UK charity teaching It, started TWO computer clubs and still build computers for myself and my son.

I have NEVER paid for AV software.

I have used AVG FREE for years, it is superb. my son is a gamer he is autistic and plays online all over the wold so uses Bit Defender, it really slows the PC down I refuse to use it

1. You won't even know you have AVG on the computer
2. Does NOt alter anything or slow it down#
3. IT WORKS and bloody well, in 10 years I have never had an issue ever

1. Hackers specifically try to attack computers running the MOST used/well known AV software such as Norton, Avast, Bit Defender, it is a challenge to them, software such as AVG, Panda, Sophos are "left" alone more a bit like Windows v Apple

OH AND THIS WAS NOT DONE INTENTIONALLY, I was Just googling FREE av software It only warns you when it has done it's job I have NEVER upgraded

AND you can turn on/off what notifications you do/don't want it is totally controllable, try it nothing to lose

Leon,
Be aware that AVAST purchased AVG a little while ago, so
you may get stuck with exactly the same messages.

AVAST free works just fine here with the occasional pop-up messages.
I just ignore them & close the box.
It auto-updates both the Definitions & the Program files.

AVAST has the same or very similar options in it's SETTINGS link, (top RHS)
on the main interface screen.

If, as you mentioned, you paid for AVAST, then you should be able to (check the SETTINGS), turn off any/all notifications.
Just take your time & check all the options offered.

You may like to peruse their support forum...?

If you read what Avast say (I don't mean if YOU read it in a rude way, just what they say )

"For our consumer customers, the Avast and AVG brands will remain the same, as we know some of you out there prefer one brand over the other, Ultimately, we are expanding our geographic footprint. AVG has traditionally been strong in English speaking markets, including the U.S. and the U.K.."

They are not changing the way AVG works
