NEWB - what do i need??

I want to get into astrophotography.
complete newb.
so what do i need, i'm a student so funds are restricted.

Hi Chantelle,

the first thing you need is: an idea of what you want to achieve
second: a camera that suits the purpose
third: rigid a mount
fourth: the darkest skies possible

i.e.: a point and shoot camera on a tripod somewhere in rural Australia. set it to maximum exposure time and maximum wide angle with 2sec shutter delay. What you get is constellations, the milky way or the moon.

...and there's always the home made tangent arm, if you want to do some wide field long exposures.

What sort of camera do you currently have?
