SBIG STXL-11002 Basic CCD Camera & Self-Guiding Filter Wheel Package

SBIG STXL-11002 Basic CCD Camera & Self-Guiding Filter Wheel Package

I personally like the 11mb chip, and notice the release of this unit is imminent. Many interesting options.

http://www.sbig.de/stt-stxl-informat...stxl-serie.pdf

I'm also hearing the AOL may connect to it?

RBI pre flash...

Does anyone have any comments on this unit? Looks like my next camera?

Thanks,

Steve

I've been reading numerous advertisements, yet I do not see the RBI option mentioned? The SBIG release mentions it (above link), but no where else.

No comments? The AOL is incompatible. A new AO is soon to be released, the AOXL.

Just writing to myself again... RBI is included. The AO is still months away, but a prototype is being tested according to SBIG.

$$? ATS needs to answer that one...

Can anyone provide a competing solution to consider? I have a good mount, and a FL2500mm, aperture around 12".

Thanks

Steve

KAI series chips like KAI11002 do not suffer from RBI.

RBI is a KAF series chip issue and is worse on some than others (KAF09000 is worst).

I have rarely seen RBI on my KAF16803. It never damaged an image either. Its an overblown issue. But if you got a KAF09000 chip it is a problem.

RBI preflash has to be implemented properly. FLI does it correctly. Another does not and is useless so I have been told.

Greg.

It's cheap in the PC world but not yet when you're working with embedded processors.

FLI of course is an alternative, check the OPT site for all cams in one place for comparison. FLI is more expensive though and the killer with the SBIG is built in filter wheel and internal guide before the filters for (OPT) $9900 odd, FLI can't touch that spec or price. The reduced back focus alone would make this an only option for many with a rotator.

Thanks, and good advice. Appreciate your feedback.

I agree with Fred.

My only comment though would be why the 11002? 16803 is a far better chip even if it is a bit more. Chances are you will want to upgrade to one later on if you get an 110002.

16803 is 60% QE versus 50% and better in Ha as well.
Its also twice the FOV of the 11002.

The 16803 is a bit more demanding of your optics and squareness but then 11002 is not easy either.

Greg.

Yes, the 11002 is a puzzle. I'd be more tempted by the 6303, but even that's a bit dated now.

No puzzle at all, 11002 is a very good chip. The entire package is the solution I've been waiting for, and once the AOXL is available, the total package will all be complete. Thanks anyway for the comments.

I have been looking at cameras for the AG12 I ordered a little while back and the STXL-11002 with the self-guiding filter wheel looks like the only option that will give me a full frame chip with a guider in front of the filters and still fit within the 80mm metal back distance needed for the corrector. I'd love a 16803 based camera but I haven't found a way to make it work...

Cheers,
Rick.

Okay, it's here. Thanks Peter.

For me it will firstly go on my FSQ, yes Mike - little refractor, but once the AO is available, and production models aren't too far away apparently, it will go finally on my CDK.
