Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens

Anyone used this for astrophotography? Thinking it would be a nice light lens for use with a Polarie and 30D.

I have a friend who bought this, said it was very soft with bad CA, took it back a few days later. Would be worth checking out in-store though if you can as he may have been exaggerating slightly. Shame as on paper it sounds great for APS-C users.
