Do NOT update iOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was given the Apple alert to update to the new iOS 13 today. I did my backup manually, then did it.

1/2 way through, it stalls. iTunes says to try again. Did so 3 times, tried new cables, direct cables rather than through hub etc. Nope. Failed. iTunes then tells me the phone cannot be updated and must be restored.

It's still doing the restore backup from iCloud now. It had BETTER work or I go back to Android

Just for giggles, and to see I was not crazy, I tried updating my daughters iPhone SE (mine is an SE too), on a different computer using a brand new, never opened cable. SAME THING.

13 is an unlucky number for iOS it seems. So, wait a couple days and see if Apple patches this one.

iOS 13.1 releases tomorrow I believe.

I updated to iOS 13 and had a little trouble with my partners phone. I always run a local backup first meaning I can easily restore if required.

I use an iPhone SE.

Took 4 hours to recover using backup from iCloud as it wouldn’t even sync with the backup on my PC. After restore it did load iOS 13.

And what a typical Apple wank it is too. Full of crap everyone with a brain doesn’t need but appeals to all the millennials, snowflakes and all the simpletons awed by uselessness and android copied features.

Bitter.... you better believe it.

Apple software has, in general, gone downhill in recent years. I still have my iPhone 4 running 9.3.5 which has proved to be largely trouble free. At least they have now junked the bloated monster that is iTunes.

Just watch them all line up for days at the nearest crapple store for the $2000 iPhone11 only to replace it next year.

A while back I was setting up my mums iPhone, and I wanted to die.

Your estimate of Apples product life is unreasonably short ... my 6 plus is fine after 4 years ditto wife’s 6.. - there is no compelling reason to update.

If I want a decent camera I use one considerably more capable that the latest iPhones.

I also have a 27” iMac nudging 10 years ... with a midlife upgrade (RAM and SSD) there no compelling reason to replace it for a few years at least.

In one respect Apple have shot themselves in the foot by building products that do actually last quite well compared to the PC/Android equivalents.

Likewise, our Apple iPod 4 Touch and Apple iPad 2, both purchased in 2011, are still going strong.

Cheers

I have no issue with Apple product lifespan -heck my SE battery still holds 88% - but the latest iOS’ have been nothing short of dismal and problematic. I had a weird issue with one of the many iOS 12 updates, and the last iOS 12 update made Siri sound drunk and slur. No joke.

iOS 13 upgrade was a nightmare for zero benefit. Bluetooth is now just about useless in the car (was previously perfect), battery use is at least tripled.... just bloated garbage iOS.

Keep 12 for as long as you can.

Hi Lewis

Our iPod 4 topped out at IOS 6 and the iPad 2 topped out at IOS 9, so we feel safe from misbehaving releases.

Cheers

Remember we had a rotary circa $50 phone at home for over a decade and no updates were ever needed, and it always worked. Back to topic - my iPad with IOS 9.3.5 is still going (quite) strong Conclusion - get an older model and there will be no updates!

iOS 13 was the issue Andy for MANY people. I upgraded - with trepidation - to 13.1 today.

Agreed - my mount controller with SkySafari tops out at 9 too No problems there, plus the battery will go 3 days without recharge. No useless apps telling me what I ate for lunch or when to have a bowel movement.

That’s an issue dropping iTunes......
I earlier lost the ability to communicate through iTunes to the books I’d saved under iBooks. There’s no iBooks anymore!!!
I had to find devious ways of editing my pdf library on the iPad.

I just backed up through iTunes - it's still there, still works, no issues at all. I have iTunes 12.10.0.7

And I have no issues with the old iOS9 iPhone 4 with iTunes either - connects and works with it just fine.

When it goes, hopefully we CAN keep the old version.

Here's what Apple says: https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/06/t...rnd/index.html
