Reader/Viewer/Storage

Hi.

Was wondering whether anyone can recommend a really good card reader for my Canon 40D compact flash cards?

It'd be great if it also includes a screen (hi-res, possibly) for viewing images....

Storage capability (for downloading/back-up) in the same unit would also be terrific, but not essential.

Please don't recommend I get a laptop. I already have one

Just something small and handy which will fit in my camera bag with all my other gear.

Many thanks.

Matt,

Speak to RB, he has a Canon M80 (I think that's the model number).

Being Canon, they're rather expensive, but, it will give you an idea of exactly what you're after. I'm almost certain that there are cheaper knock offs that would do just the same thing.

Regards,
Humayun

Hi Matt

I’ve been contemplating something similar myself, and stumbled across the Epson P3000, P6000 and P7000 (40-80-160Gb) range which appeared more “universal” than the Canon model as well as having a larger screen (4” versus 3.7”).

I only looked on websites, so I haven’t a clue as to their functional capabilities and how any differences may transcribe into +ve / -ve factors in real life usage.

The Epson’s can also play movies if you’re into watching movies with your morning cappuccino and croissant on the bay at Wynnum! LOL!

Cheers

Dennis

PS- The nice thing about the Canon M80 is that it uses the same battery as the 40D I think?

Thanks H and Dennis.

Dennis - I like the look of that Epson range.

I'm thinking the P3000 and its 40 gig storage capacity would be ample for my needs.

I'll give that some more thought...over another croissant!!!

Cheers.

Dang!!!!

Oh well...them's the breaks.

I'll need to sit down and compare the specs of the Epson and the Vosonic...but I'm amazed the latter offers 160Gb over 40...and a higher res screen, for $70 less

Hi Matt

I’ve only had a very quick look at the Vosonic specs, but it looks like the owner can fit their own 2.5” SATA drive?

If that is the case (???), this could be useful if for whatever reason you wanted to swap several drives for the device (I can’t think why just yet!).

Another difference I noted was that the Epson played DivX movies, whereas the Vosonic played Xvid movies – is that important to you?

I noted that Photocontinetal at Mt Gravatt had the Epson P3000 listed as in stock and at $549. A quick web search revealed web prices ranging from $450 to over $600!

Cheers

Dennis
