The area covered by this image is a little off the beaten track and has been visited by others but we have not been too inundated with images of the area. Prominent are the emission nebulae in the centre of the image - IC1283 & IC1284 and the blue reflection nebula NGC6589 & NGC6590. The scattering of stars at the 2 o'clock position just above the blue reflection nebulae are part of the open cluster NGC6595. Clouds of brown coloured interstellar dust are blocking out the light from the Milky Way beyond. Not far away (at least when it comes to slewing the telescope) are the more popular targets of M16, M17, M8 and M20. The area also borders on to M24, the Sagittarius star cloud.
If I look carefully I can imagine that I see a cave with a V shaped entrance and a red faced monster with two piercing blue eyes looking out from beyond.
“Follow only if ye be men of valor, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived! Bones of four fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty big pointy teeth.”
Lovely image Rodney, one of those bits of the winter Milky Way that gets overlooked for it's more famous and brighter nearby cousins, so well done for not ignoring it like everyone else
A great image with every aspect expertly handled. Well done, Rodney!

Thanks everyone. I was a little challenged with this one trying to get the balance right with contrast and brightness. I could fiddle some more but at some point we need to let them go
Nicely done Rodney. I have done this several times myself. I think the extra focal length gives a tighter view in your image than my attempts. The dust lanes with twists and curls look nice in your image.
