31st Jan Lunar Eclipse

The best of the 140 pics I took of the Lanar Eclipse last Wednesday. I need to learn a bit more on the settings on my camera and processing images for a better image. But I’m still happy with it 😊

Nice one Billy! Good to see you contribute to the 'moon eclipse club'. Colour and exposure looks good, there seems to be some camera movement due maybe to your shutter speed being too slow. You have to keep your exposures short on a fixed tripod at longer focal lengths, it's a good start and I'm sure you'll get to know your camera better as time goes on. Good on you for sorting through 140 pics!

Well done Billy

A remote shutter switch is a good investment and a tripod.
Also 'mirror lockup' is useful: mirror lifts, camera waits 2 sec. then takes the exposure.
And if you have a Canon or Nikon try Backyard EOS software to control your camera.

Hi James

Great effort! You have the exposure just right.

Now to work on the focus.

Difficult to do without seeing the image on a PC screen.

Try focusing to infinity during the day and mark or tape the right spot.

Yes, Peter, it looks better on the PC screen! The mirror lens I used is actually like a SCT and is considered by the "experts" to be rubbish! (compared to a super expensive telephoto like Canon, this one cost about $250 for 500mm! A posh fancy telephoto would be several thousands). They are notoriously difficult to focus preciseley, but using live view and then software, not too bad!
