RA Drive problem.

I got an RA drive along with some other parts to restore an old Tasco. The drive makes a sort of rattling noise and then stops after less than a minute. The red light does stay on so the power is there. Turning it off and back on starts it up but it just stops again. Worth trying to open up the gearbox or look at finding another one?

Of course it is worth it.. Maybe you have a loose screw that went into gears and cogs, preventing motor rotation.

Thanks for the reply, the gearbox is a sealed unit and I'd probably break it trying to open it. I noticed it runs when not on the mount but everything there looks clean and free.

OK....
Did you try to stop it by hand (when off the mount)? You should apply a lot of force to stop it.

Next, how about the worm (when gearbox is off). Can you rotate it easily? Worm should rotate quite easily...

Seems like the ra clutch is too tight, loosen the big knob on the side of the mount a little bit and see if that helps.

The worm is fine and I even tried it with the clutch bolt loosened off. If I muck about with the drive shaft when it's running it just dies completely. I'd say it's knackered and I'm going to have to get another. :-( Thanks for all the suggestions though.
