The Seagull's Head NGC2327

Hi Guys,

After seeing Jase's seagull i gave it a go at it myself. my F4 10" fov can only capture the head of it so here it is taken from last night. The surface area is very dim and hard to get any HA on the screen with the modded DSLR.

10 x 5 minutes, 8 x 7 minutes at ISO 400.

Hi Res:

Hi,

Lovely photo again .

I am amazed at the different Ha response from Jases image, (and i understand he has an $11k camera). I thought modded DSLR's would easily pick up dim Ha. Your horsehead and others seem to get heaps of Ha. Is this that much dimmer?

Is it because you can only really go 7 to 10 minutes with an uncooled DSLR or would you get much more under dark skies?

Paul

Top capture eric, you have really brought out some nice detail in the dark dust lane through the middle.

Cheers

Nice work Eric. I think longer subs would do the trick, but then you're battling noise. I hope others give it a go to compare modded/unmodded results.

thanks for your replies guys. Zut, yes, i think this is much dimmer than the horsehead as my unprocessed subs i can just make it out. If I was under darker skies then yes i can go much longer. I have done various tests with different iso's etc, longest i can go is 7-8 mins at only iso 400. tried iso800 and longer subs and it wil go overexposed thus loosing heaps of data and around this time of the year, temp at night sits at 19 degrees outside at 12am according to my thermometer , longer will definitely give me heaps of blue/red pixels.

Nice shot there, looks great on a nice black background like that. Nicely tracked, focused and processed.
