400 Megapixel Hasselblad $$$

Just what you always wanted: a 400 Megapixel camera, 54mm x 40mm sensor, 23200 x 17400 pixels all for just $US 48K or rent for $US 480 per day.

The Hasselblad H6D-400c uses pixel shift technology on their 100 megapixel sensor to achieve their 400 megapixel images. That should sort out any image scale issues, albeit in colour at the moment. It would be better or at the limit of what most optics are capable of resolving or what the atmosphere is capable of allowing you to see, but hey, that's life. Apparently it's aimed at the high-res art authentication/archival/reproduction market, but with a good mount the pixel shift mode might be Ok for astro, otherwise switch to normal 100 megapixel mode. Oh and you'll need a card or two, images are 2.3 gigabytes in size.

It is good to see pixel shift tech starting to trickle down to more cameras. How about you Canon and Nikon ???

Best

Not sure if its ideal for astro, its still a OSC camera

How do you calibrate a pixel shifted image ?

Plus a long exposure is actually still not a long exposure - its 6 separate exposures all combined.
So deep nebulosity or very low photon count regions will suffer as you would need to expose for 6 times as long to capture the low light areas to get above the noise level

But I'd still like to borrow one just to see !!
