I've been putting off processing the data I've been collecting in recent months. I'll try get to it all over the next week or so.

I think you have a fine image there but I bet it would go up in price if you ran it thru startools..if nothing else it would get rid of the noise like you would not believe... anyways as you say its a start so I guess you have a few more things in mind..now you just have to get it finished as now I am curious how you will develop on this one.

Using a DSLR, Startools is a life saver particularly in the summer months

That's a great image but I agree you can still squeeze a lot more out of this. You've got excellent data to work with so keep processing because I think it's going to be a keeper.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've had a crack at Startools and Pixinsight trials. Startools crashed 3 times now (without cpu overclock) before I got to the end of an edit, but I've managed to do alright in Pixinsight with my "overclock". It really loaded up and used all my cores and threads so that's great to see.


Anyway, here is a reprocess, there is more detail in the galaxy with a similar noise level, and the darker background seems to be much less noisy. I used a mask to reduce the effects of noise reduction on the galaxy.
There is a bit of gradient in the lower right corner of the original.

OK I don't mean that but imagine you work for a boss who would say that ..
Sorry ..you have done well..but you must do better...we expect 20% higher than perfection..
You must know it's never good enough...
If you don't come back with something Hubble would die for your line will be cursed for eternity.
So next one..no pressure.
And don't blame the gear ...
Seriously you have done well in my very humble view...the detail is way past anything I managed ... Basically I think you can build your image into a gob smacking feature..so don't give up..
Thank you for sharing I for one appreciate it..it's one at a time..not easy to show your best...I respect you.

I really need to ease up on chasing perfection, otherwise I'll never be happy haha.
Here's 12f of m8 reprocessed, no darks of flats if i remember right. Ive previously edited and posted this data here somewhere.

I might try editing a dozen exposures of m16 next without calibrarion frames. Also have some ngc 6188, m20 and probably some other stuff.

A lot of very nice data to have with a great result.

I have found star tools crashes also on my newish i5 where PI will just tick over nicely on my way old Dual Core without much ram. . I suppose that is the advantage of paying more for a fully integrated object orientated program. Although it It takes some time to get a result the result never seems to look muddied.

Nebulosity is quick and powerful, besides being a cheap end to end scripted capturing and editing program, but it also crashes on bigger files.

Im using a 2700x with raised power limits so the eight cores boost up to 4.35 regularly. I absolutely love that Pixinsight is reliably taking advantage of it.
I had trouble working out deconvolution on this one. It did cause some issues here but I grew tired of messing around so it'll do. Small faint halos around a couple stars too. Maybe I'll revisit the same data again later.

Bit worried about the ST crashing reports though...

Absolutely no pressure, but any details would be incredibly helpful if it is indeed a bug I need to look at. Does this happen with the latest version (1.5 just released), the 1.4 betas or 1.3.5? Is it crashing randomly or when doing something in particular (e.g. under load for example)? What operating system are you running? How do the crashes manifest themselves? Instant app closure? Becomes unresponsive? BSOD/Panics? ST does absolutely torture a system in places, much like AIDA64 or Prime95 it can bring out instabilities or iffy components.

Thanks Alex, It can be in some areas, others are not so bad. Unfortunately I'm beside the main road in and out with a 7/11 across from me that's lit up ridiculously bright. Even shooting to the west (it's to my east), i can encounter gradients using the Astronomic CLS CCD filter which is apparently pretty aggressive.

Thanks Ivo. I did have issues with RAM a few months back, I might run memtest when I get the chance to confirm it's still working fine first but I recently reformatted my bootable memtest USB so i'll need to make another.
I'll send you a PM with my specs and some details for now though.

Very nice. I love shooting this region wide field.
Try a long dew tube as that really helps when there is light about I find..it minimises the stray light down the tube..in my view.

It's taken longer than it should have to process another image, WOW classic free trial was a mistake!

Anyway, NGC6188, Darks, Flats and bias' used
52frames @ 180s ISO1600 2hr36min integration
I kinda was focusing more on the dark detail here. Unfortunately I haven't been able to stack all of my data, I have frames that get more detail in the "lower" direction of my image but DSS didn't want to stack them in. I'll work this out eventually and re-edit the wider FOV data, the brighter section was meant to intersect the middle of the frame if you get what I mean.

This still looks great with what you've been able to stack. Shame the other subs won't play nice, were they taken with the same ISO setting?
