Astrotortilla help

Hey guys,

Having some problems with Astrotortilla. I had it working fine with my ED80, but since trying to use it with my RC8 it's unable to solve anything. I'm using it in conjunction with an Atik 314L

I think I've downloaded all of the index files (33.7Gb of them at any rate), so I don't believe that's the issue.

I've tried:

* Search radius up to 90
* Upping the scale max, and reducing the scale min, I can't remember exact numbers but they were significantly changed
* Exposures from 5s to 30s
* Binning from 1x to 4x
* Nebulosity for capture, and screen capture through Artemis
* Sigma down as low as 20
* Star shape relaxation setting (-c) up to 0.05
* JNOW and J2000

I'm totally at a loss on what I can try next. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Attached is a screen shot of my initial settings, ignoring the capture settings of 30s.

Getting the correct image scale is the key. Then everything falls into place. What is your focal length, pixel size and sensor dimensions?

I used this to calculate the scale info: http://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/field-view-calculator Gives me a FOV of 19.01' x 14.2' which could be my problem. I've realised now, thanks to you, that I stupidly had my numbers swapped. I was using the scale values for my ED80 on my RC8. Move along now, nothing to see here....

Let's hope that resolves it Lee! I find that once I get my image scale in arcsexpic correct (such that it is solving consistently), then I can tighten those up after some trial-and-error and really cut the solve time (to typically 6-10sec).

That was it, thanks Barry! Solved first attempt last night in about 11s, then the second iteration in 6. It's good to be back
