ONstep STM32 handpad controller (semi-smart)

Boards arrived today from PCBway (10 pcs cost me only US$5... and nothing for postage because I had another design from them so I combined delivery cost).

This is my solution, hand pad has only processor, serial, BT, ST4 (plus buttons), RTC and buffers (interface to stepper drivers, which are in the mount).

Components layout, one of the options (no BT).
In full configuration, FTDI adapter is placed beneath main board (connected to A8, A9), and BT module is mounted on top.
I still have to print connector panels (using clear ABS, so LEDs are visible from outside of box in the dark).

Finished...
Now it's soldering time...
Then, drilling box for buttons.

If someone is interested in this approach, let me know and I will post stl files here... And PCB design, of course.

That's a very neat and elegant design combining the traditional hand controller with the onstep controller.
What do you use to align your setup and initiate gotos?

Thanks
Normally I use permanent mount in my backyard...

This handpad has USB and BT, so for GoTo I use CdC (via USB) or (very rarely) Howard's android app.

With CdC, I simply point to bright star near wanted object and sync on it.. then GoTo where ever I want.

Once I performed GoTo to M33 from opposite side of the sky, without problem - object was in the centre of 400mm lens FOV.

Recently I found some time to update my OnStep PCB board (MT1-3 control added).
I haven't done PCB yet - I am waiting for another order by company I work for to share a shipping cost (PCBfast will do 5 those boards for US$5.00).
This PCB fits into EQ6 mount (to replace the original), it has (my) standard connector (DSUB15 for onstep, DB25 for Bartels) and works with my hand-pad controller (arduino or STM32 or Bartels or whatever, provided it has Dir-Step interface).

Glad to see I'm not the only one customising these things

I'm in the middle of re-laying out the MAXESP3 to add things like reverse polarity protection and improve on it (the pads are too small and the holes too large), also recreating the end plates as PCB's so there is nothing to print.

Though at this point I am left wondering If I should just recreate it in SMD and call it a day, as that would allow things like a much beefier USB Type B connector,
