Eta Carina brightening

Details here:

Binary star to spill celestial secrets - Close approach and violent interaction of stars in η Carinae system will provide rare insight into stellar enigma: http://www.nature.com/news/binary-st...ecrets-1.15672

Might be some interesting times ahead, and a possible major brightening, of one of our favourite southern objects!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting Barry.

Another major brightening would create a lot of interest.

Michael.

I already noticed it in Feb 2012. I started a thread on it.
According to the article it brightened again last April and June again. I've last seen it from South Africa last March and will go to SA next Feb. I am curious whether it has brightened by then.

Possible we all can notice the 1841 event again when it got as bright as Canopus. That wll mean a third pointer on the other side of Crux.
