Spectacular Double-Double Conjunction Treat- August 18th (Dawn).

Jupiter & Venus join together as a tight duo in our sky.
This will be quite low, so you will need a good eastern horizon for this.

The article below doesn't mention that Jupiter's Moons, Ganymede and Callisto appear very close together as well, almost looking as tho they're touching. A double double of treats!

Go check your sky programme- it looks really really cooooool!

This event is posted on our fb page if you'd like to share the joy.

We're supposed to be having a really wet weekend here in Brisbane so here's hoping it clears in time.

Suzy the date is wrong in the title. It should be the 18th. Just after they rise Venus and Jupiter will be ~25 arcmin apart.

That's several degrees below my horizon. They don't clear the trees until ~08:40.

Ooops! Thanks Andrew. I got the northern hem & southern hem dates mixed up and throw in that it's in the early morning (written in the IIS calender as 18th) threw me for a loop!
Edited.

At 06:00 on the 18th the two planets will be 25 arc minutes apart and 8° above my horizon if it were flat.
The article is mainly for northern hemisphere observers and is using universal time. 04:00 UT is 14:00 here in Queensland.
Cheers

Just a quick shot with an iphone, grabbed on the way to work this morning (yep I start work at 6am !) Photo is cropped and contrast enhanced to better show the planets against the brightening Sky.

I took this on the way into LA this morning. It was a beautiful sight, but the iPad doesn't do it justice.
